Independent Bookshop Week will feature 100 events across 60 bookshops, with participation rising to a 739 independent stores nationwide. Bestselling authors Philip Pullman, Mike Gayle, Elif Shafak, and L. D. Lapinski will headline events including cookery book clubs, city music history tours, cinema screenings & poetry readings.

11 May: Tate Modern Turns 25
The Tate Modern was opened by Queen Elizabeth II 25 years ago. The building was converted from Gilbert Scott’s 1962 Bankside Power Station.2000 BBC Film 58:02. Soon after The South London Guide was approached by the Tate for outreach purposes. This year sees the return of Louise Bourgeois (1911-2010) gigantic Maman spider. More info

March: The London Eye is 25 years old
From a millennium landmark to a timeless icon celebrating 25 years of the London Eye, this observation wheel has transformed London’s skyline. Designed by David Marks (1952-2017) and Julia Barfield.

Greek basement bar opens in Borough Market
Agora, modelled after a relaxed Greek taverna (walk-in only), has opened in Borough market. Upstairs is Oma, a more formal restaurant. Both are run by David Carter of Manteca fame.
